         Why is May the Month of Mary?

  MARIAN MONTH

  The month of May, for the last few centuries, has been given to remembering and honouring Mary, the Mother of God. Falling within our 50 day celebration of Easter it calls the place of Mary in the redemptive work of her Son. In the Council of Ephesus (432) Mary was declared the Mother of God and has been honourned as such by all the Christian Churches. Pope John Paul IV, in his  Encyclical about May devotions reminds us that Mary has no other mission than to bring us to her Son, Jesus Christ. So as we pray let us seek to understand as Mary did, what it means to be a follower of Christ.

  Amen.
