JOHN THE BAPTIST, ADVENT PROPHET OF HOPE

As we light the first candle on the Advent wreath, the Church exhorts us to reflect on "hope" for this first week.

Advent is a time of expectation. The virtue of hope fundamentally points us toward that which we do not yet possess. It is a time of waiting, looking forward to the good things that God has in store, things that have not yet arrived.

And the Advent figure, par excellence, is John the Baptist.

NEW BOOK RELEASE: TO ROME WITH THE HOMELESS

Each year for nearly a decade, Tanya Cangelosi traveled on pilgrimage to Rome with one of her homeless friends. As founder of the Denver Homeless Ministry, she wanted “to inspire homeless youth and adults to change their lives and not to allow themselves to be controlled by their circumstances.” Each trip to Rome was a unique, crazy adventure for everyone involved, and ultimately transformative.

To Rome with the Homeless captures the poignant stories of both Tanya and her newfound friends in a moment of encounter. Tanya’s own story of homelessness and conversion, and the way she has boldly answered the Lord’s call for her life, encourages us to live our own call to see Christ in every person.
