    TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR B

    A REFLECTION (Mark 9: 30-37)

    THE BATTLE WITHIN. Today’s readings highlight the battle between good and evil. The virtuous person in today’s First Reading, and Jesus in the Gospel, both suffer greatly at the hands of the godless. But as James notes in today’s Second Reading, and as we see in Jesus’ disciples, the battle between good and evil is waged within each one of us as well. While we give thanks to God for the good within us, we also acknowledge the part of ourselves that is drawn to evil an humbly seek God’s mercy.
