MORNING PRAYER (Monday 6th December 2021)
REFLECTION
After the visit of the Angel Gabriel who told Mary that she had been chosen to be the mother of Jesus, Mary went on a long journey to see her cousin, Elizabeth. Gabriel had told her, also, that Elizabeth would have a son, even though she was quite old.
There was a very happy meeting between them and God let Elizabeth know that Mary was to be the mother of His Son.
Mary thanks God for the wonderful thing He had done for her. She stayed with Elizabeth and helped her. Elizabeth’s son was called John.
When he grew up, John went out and told people that they should repent of their sins and change their lives. In this way they would be ready for Jesus when He came.
Some people thought that John must be the Messiah – Jesus – but he told them that he was not even good enough to undo Jesus’ sandal. Many people listened to John and were sorry for the wrong things they had done. Then John Baptised them. We call him John the Baptist. He is a very great Saint.
