Hi Deacon Dinh,
An old Chinese proverb proclaims, ”old roots, new shoots,” so it is with the old but continuous prophetic tradition as a foundation of our Christian faith life. A new generation of prophets always appears to carry on this rich tradition of prophetic figures like Dorothy Day and Martin Luther King.
This Second Week of the Advent Season we are challenged to discover and celebrate the witness of these "new shoots” who in their own unique way speak truth to power like Day and King in their time. Although each representative of this prophetic tradition speaks to diverse situations, they all are in the words of today’s Gospel, “voices crying out from the desert”. Let us heed the message of “old roots and new shoots” in our world today!
