A REFLECTION: THIS IS MY SON, THE BELOVED (Matthew 3: 13 - 17) . Just before he confronts the temper in the desert, Jesus is baptised in the Jordan. He is revealed as the beloved Son of God. His baptism marks the beginning of his public ministry, of the time when the role of John the Baptist will decrease and Jesus' proclamation of the kingdom of God, by word and deed, will increase.
