    A REFLECTION (Matthew 10: 37-42):

     

    HARD SAYINGS. Today’s Gospel includes a number of so called ‘hard sayings’ of Jesus. They identify the basic paradox of our Christian faith: It is only by emptying ourselves in imitation of Jesus (Phil 2:7) that we can receive the fullness of life which is his gift (Jn 10: 10). There can be no real growth in the Spirit if self-interest prevails.
