MORNING PRAYER(Thursday 07^th January 2021)

I heard a story recently…

It was fiction I presume…

of a man who had fallen off

the edge of the cliff.

He had managed to grab onto

the root of a tree growing from

the side of the cliff and was

literally hanging on for dear

                    life.

He began to pray. Then he heard

the voice of God asking him. Do

you really believe in me?

‘I do. I do!’ protested the poor

man whose life hung in the

balance. Do you trust me? Asked

the voice of God. ‘Yes, yes!’ the

man answered. Then the voice

came back. Then I will see

to it that you are saved. Now

do as I tell you to do… let go!

MORNING PRAYER (Tuesday 05 January 2021)

The Lord said to me: “Go down to the potter’s house, where I will give you my message.”

So I went there and saw the potter at his wheel. Whenever a piece turned out imperfect, he would take the clay and make it into something else.

Then the Lord said to me: “Haven’t I the right to do so you people of Israel what the potter did with the clay? You are in my hands just the clay in the potter’s.”

MORNING PRAYER (Wednesday 06^th January 2021)

TO BE A MAN

To be a man is to bring to full maturity all your good qualities and to come to terms with your weaknesses along with the way. It is to take your place in society with pride, enthusiasm, confidence and determination. It is to contribute your thoughts, your work, and your ideals that they may be a moving force today and a positive  influence on generations to come.

To be a man is to appreciate the world and all its pleasures and beauties. To find solace, entertainment, and inspiration in the miracle of nature, in the great arts, in the excitement of travel and in getting to know and understand others.

To be a man is to realise that all people hunger for many things-material and spiritual, to be sensitive to those needs and to be generous in helping to fill them.

Such a man will be a staunch friend, a loyal lover, a courteous and chivalrous companion. He will find a warm welcome wherever he may go, for his thoughtfulness will be unlimited, his assistance will require no thanks, his laughter will be kind and infectious, and his presence will bring joy and comfort.

It is not easy to one’s best foot forward always, to meet adversity with courage and success with humility, to forgive when it demands most of you but these things are the very essence of being a man – and to be a man is truly wonderful thing!

MORNING PRAYER (Monday 04 January 2020)

Lord Jesus,

You asked for my hands that you might use them for your purpose,

I gave them for a moment, then withdrew them for the work was hard.

You asked for my mouth to speak out against injustice.

I gave you a whisper that I might not be accused.

You asked for my life that you might work through me,

I gave a small part that I might not get too involved.

Lord, forgive my calculated efforts to serve you

only when it is convenient for me to do so,

only in those places where it is safe to do so,

and only in those who make it easy to do so.

Lord, forgive me, renew me, heal me, nurture me,

empower me, send me out as an instrument of your peace

that I might take seriously the meaning of servant-leadership.

Amen.
