“Have you experienced the power of the Spirit?”
View this email in your browser
Dear Deacon Nguyen,

You have incredible power within you.

Every believer in Christ can claim the power of the Holy Spirit for whatever God has called him or her to do! If you say “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life…” (Nicene Creed), you’re acknowledging God’s presence within you.
“Send forth your spirit, they are created and you renew the face of the earth”
~ Psalm 104:30
After He was resurrected and appeared to His disciples, Jesus commanded them to remain in Jerusalem until they received the power of the Holy Spirit. So on the day of Pentecost, He came like a strong wind where Jesus’ followers had gathered. It was perfect timing. The disciples were frightened, having lost our Lord twice—first to death, then to the Ascension—but by the Spirit, He returned to equip them with divine authority and energy to do His work.

Dinh, God’s spirit gives power to renew, create and build up, not to beat up, dominate or oppress. Jesus, the “owner” of our souls and giver of life, gives us fullness of life through the Spirit; the only way to strengthen that life is to give it to others. If we allow the indwelling Spirit of God to speak to us, we will have the real joy that only comes from knowing Him.
Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M. Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M.
Prayer for Pentecost Sunday
Sequence Veni, Sancte Spiritus

Come, Holy Spirit, come!
and from Your celestial home
shed a ray of light divine!
come, Father of the poor!
come, source of all our store!
come, within our bosoms shine.

You, of comforters the best;
You, the soul's most welcome guest;
sweet refreshment here below;
in our labor, rest most sweet;
grateful coolness in the heat;
solace in the midst of woe.

O most blessed light divine,
shine within these hearts of Yours,
and our inmost being fill!
Where you are not, we have naught,
nothing good in deed or thought,
nothing free from taint of ill.

Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
on our dryness pour Your dew;
wash the stains of guilt away:
bend the stubborn heart and will;
melt the frozen, warm the chill;
guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful, who adore
and confess You, evermore
in Your sevenfold gift descend;
give them virtue's sure reward;
give them Your salvation, Lord;
give them joys that never end.

Amen. Alleluia.

    “And 'The Beat Goes On'”
    View this email in your browser
    Dear Deacon Nguyen,

    At the heart of mission sending is a visceral presence of God’s love through action.

    Jonathan Hill said, “I am dedicating my life to the service of God’s most favored—the poor, the marginalized and the outcast,” at his ordination to the diaconate of Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers.

    And Ryan Thibert relayed his feelings about mission by saying, “I realize that it is in living for others through Christ where I feel truly happy and at peace in my life.”
    “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
    ~ Matthew 28:19a – 20b
    This weekend, Jonathan Hill became a Maryknoll priest and Ryan Thibert became a Maryknoll Brother.

    Rev. Jonathan Hill, M.M. and Brother Ryan Thibert, M.M., spent nine years preparing for the moments of ordination and perpetual Oath respectively. Father Jonathan’s uncle was a missioner to Honduras, and he himself engaged in mission experiences in Honduras, Rome and the Philippines. Brother Ryan became attracted to mission because of Maryknollers’ “…sincere active calling to serve all God’s people in cross-cultural mission” and his overseas mission immersion trips to Jamaica and Africa.

    Dinh, we are all called to mission, whether in our families, communities, jobs, or the world! Mission work is necessary until Christ comes again. In the words of Maryknoll’s first Bishop, James E. Walsh, M.M., “go to a place where you are not wanted but needed, and remain until you are not needed but wanted,” because the beat must still go on.
    Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M. Sincerely yours in Christ,
    Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M.
    Prayer for 7th Sunday of Easter
    You have filled my heart to overflowing,
    Lord of life, love, mercy, and peace,
    more than any one person deserves
    and more than any one soul can contain.

    So I cannot help but share all the graces
    You have given me with everyone in the world
    but especially with those who need them most.

    You who are my joy and my strength,
    empower me to step out in faith
    to family, friend, foreigner, or foe
    in imitation of Jesus who left everything
    to bless and bestow on me
    all that is good, noble, and true.

    Yet such is Your goodness, O Lord,
    that the more I give, and love, and share
    the more I have to offer others, who
    like me, are made in Your image and
    likeness as precious children of God.

    Amen.

    “All You Need is Love”
    View this email in your browser
    Dear Deacon Nguyen,

    Have you ever watched someone put brick upon brick to build a house?

    It’s a fascinating process...and don’t forget the mortar!

    Just as there are many layers to a building—with the mortar functioning as the “glue”—there are layers to loving as God wants us to love. But we must make all things new within ourselves first. It is essential to accept God’s love for us before we can even begin to give that love to others. However, as more of the “mortar” of our relationship with Christ is smoothed down between the internal bricks, we must express that love outwardly. How does that happen?
    “The one on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’”
    ~ Revelations 21:5
    As our hearts grow in love, the desire for sharing that love deepens. We are compelled to establish a new status quo by giving away the very love that Christ built inside of us! Our love becomes like that proverbial tiny mustard seed, “...when full-grown...is the largest of plants." (Matthew 13:32)

    Dinh, we have the great privilege of making all things new for others until that new heaven and new earth arrive. “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35). Loving someone is giving life. If we truly do that, everyone will know who we are and Whom we represent.
    Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M. Sincerely yours in Christ,
    Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M.
    Prayer for 5th Sunday of Easter
    Send forth Your Spirit, O Lord,
    and renew the face of the Earth.
    From the rubble of our plans
    and abandoned dreams
    create a new world
    of justice, love, and truth.

    The stone rejected by builders
    has become the cornerstone
    of Your kingdom on earth.

    Restore Your Church
    living stone by living stone
    held together by the mortar
    of faith and mutual love
    and seasoned by the blood
    of martyrs and of the Lamb.

    Amen.

    “There can be miracles when you believe”
    View this email in your browser
    Dear Deacon Nguyen,

    Have you ever met someone on fire for God?

    Such people just can’t keep quiet about what God has for them. Once the Lord is visible in our lives, we just can’t shut up about it!
    “When he had risen, early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told his companions who were mourning… they did not believe... [But] later, as the eleven were at table, he appeared to them and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they had not believed those who saw him after he had been raised. He said to them, ‘Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.’”
    ~ Mark 16:9, 10:14-15
    When Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome went out to embalm Jesus’ body, their hopes that the great Rabbi was the true Messiah were dashed. But Mary of Magdala went from being deeply grieved to going down in history as the first to see our Risen Lord!

    Imagine their surprise when the two-ton stone had been moved and Christ was gone. Who could have taken their Rabbi and why? The most miraculous event in history was followed by an avalanche of faith. Once Mary got a glimpse of Christ’s face, she ran to the apostles. Once the apostles went out, Christianity spread like wildfire.

    Dinh, are you on fire this Easter morning? So go! Proclaim the Good News to all the world today and every day. We can’t help but share it with everyone once we get a glimpse of Jesus’ face. Look into our Savior’s eyes and tell the world that Jesus conquered death for you and for me. He is not here, He is risen!
    Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M. Sincerely yours in Christ,
    Father Raymond J. Finch, M.M.
    Prayer for Easter Sunday
    With heavy hearts we mourn
    Your death, Lord Jesus,
    as we accompany Mary Magdalene
    and the other holy women
    to the tomb where our hope
    lies buried.

    Our tears of sorrow turn to those
    of unspeakable joy when we see
    not so much an empty tomb
    but a heart and world filled
    with the glory of Your Resurrection.

    You are truly risen, Lord Jesus!
    You remain with us still!
    may we share this wonderful news
    with everyone we meet by
    reflecting Your truth
    in everything we say and do.

    Amen.
